Then & Now: Lizzie Schultz
Lizzie PreschoolTwenty years ago, Lizzie Schultz was an active two-year-old, ready to go to preschool. Her parents didn't enroll her at St. David's Center with the idea of needing special needs services, but they were "lucky they did," explained her mom, Peg. The early childhood education staff at St. David's Center suggested Lizzie be evaluated and she was diagnosed with a movement disorder. "Lizzie got a great start at St. David's Center. She was very comfortable there, enjoyed herself and got the extra help she needed. We knew we were getting the best."

Lizzie NowToday, Lizzie is 22 and a recent graduate of Augsburg College. She is employed full-time as a social media coordinator for a clinical research site. Despite her movement disorder, Lizzie competed in nationals for swimming, completed a triathlon and has traveled to all but three continents. "I might not have accomplished as much if I didn't have this disorder," shared Lizzie. "Some might look at it as a barrier, but I see it as an opportunity."
